It is no secret that developers are in high demand and that there are plenty of platforms available to find them. But how do we validate their coding skills?

Here are 5 platforms that can help you find and evaluate them!

1. Toptal

If you are familiar with freelancing platforms, Toptal is one of its kind. On most platforms, users are allowed to create a profile without the need to prove their skills. But Toptal does not allow every user to create a profile. Users need to take several tests before creating a profile: language test, personality test, skill review test, practical exam and/or test projects. Even after the completion of these tests, only 3% of the top scorers are able to create a profile on Toptal.

The platform requires an initial deposit of $500 once you hire a talent. If the company decides not to proceed with the hiring process, it gets a refund. The average fees of hiring a programmer start from $60 per hour.

2. CoderPad

CoderPad is a web-based platform which lets you watch programmers write and run a code in real time. The platform supports over 20 programming languages. One of the cool features of the platform is the “record session”. It allows users to record a coding session and evaluate it later with their tech team. CoderPad also has an in-built video calling feature which makes communication easy.

The pricing for CoderPad starts at $50 per month for a personal account.

3. X-Team

If you are looking for senior front-end developers, X-Team seems a good start. They have a very strict recruitment policy with an average test time of 1–3 weeks for every developer. The developers on X-Team come from more than 30 countries. The minimum contract period for hiring a developer will be 3 months and you will need to give a 30 days notice period for discontinuing a partnership.

Get in touch with them to find out more on their pricing!

4. HackerRank

You can search for candidates and screen through their resumes in HackerRank. The platform has over 1500 pre-built questions for over 35 programming languages. It allows you to choose an assignment from their library, or create your own assignment to test the skills of a candidate. It has a pre-built integration with ATS applications such as Avature, Breezy, Lever and many more.

HackerRank provides users with a 14-day free trial with its basic features. For premium plans, recruiters will need to get in touch with their sales team.

5. Gun.io

Programmers go through a series of tests to be a part of Gun.io. It first filters applications based on their language competency and code samples. Gun.io then invites the qualified applicants into their private Slack community.

The applicants will then send in their request to join the second circle teams. This is where applicants have access to open projects. Once an applicant applies to join a project, he or she needs to go through an interview process. Upon completion of this process, the applicant joins the first circle. This means that applicants will only be able to work on a project after joining the first circle.

There are no part-time freelancers on Gun.io. Every engineer in the platform has to commit to at least 20 hours a week to be part of the platform.

Their pricing information is only upon request. You can contact them to learn more about their pricing.

About Indorse, the new way to evaluate programming skills

Indorse is the first Decentralised Professional Network with an initial focus on programming skills! On the Indorse platform, coding skills are evaluated by expert coders. When a developer claims that he/she is an expert in JavaScript, a panel of expert coders are picked randomly to review his/her coding skill. At the end of this evaluation process, the claim will either be indorsed or flagged.

By using the Indorse platform, you won’t need to spend several man-hours to sieve through the barrage of resumes. It allows to find the ideal developer with a minimum effort and budget!
