StartupGrind in the Metaverse: how to join the live-streamed event
This is a mini-guide on how to follow the educational virtual event organised by StartupGrind directly from the metaverse! Learn how to join the virtual space and how to move around with your Avatar.
Today, Startup Grind Gibraltar will also be live streaming its free educational event in the Metaverse; specifically, in Indorse’s & BlockBots HQ in one of the biggest blockchain metaverse called Cryptovoxel!
Before we start, here is a mini meta glossary & details about the virtual event:
- “The Metaverse, Play to Earn & BlockBots”: you can register for free here! The event will be taking place on Bevy, a software for online webinars & events, and will also be live-streamed on a screen in the metaverse. The event starts today (27/01/22) at 3:00 PM CET! We will be joined by Denise Matthews, Eddy Travia, Gaurang Torvekar, and a special guest: the hon. Albert Isola, Gibraltar’s Minister of Finance!
- CryptoVoxels: one of the original blockchain metaverses. It’s powered by the Ethereum blockchain and all the users can buy land, build stores, art galleries, homes, organise/participate in gatherings, etc. The editing tools, avatars, and text chat are built-in. Indorse has acquired a space there for our NFT project called BlockBots!
- Today’s live-streamed event: the event will take place on our second floor where anyone will be able to follow the live discussion from a screen we’ve built for such events. To be able to view the event, you will need to follow some very simple steps shared below!
- Your metaverse Avatar during today’s event: once you enter the metaverse, you will be able to move around as your Avatar. It’s a first-person metaverse, meaning that view things through the perspective of your Avatar. A first-person view lets you see exactly what your character sees.
For the most complete experience, you should use your PC/Laptop — this is highly suggested for today’s event! But you can also move around the metaverse with your phone — the visual quality is pretty cool, but you’ll miss out on some of the audio.
Here are two ways to join the metaverse; the second option will give you some tips on how to move around with your avatar!
(A) Quickstart → Jump into the Metaverse!
- Teleport yourself to the space where the event will take place: CLICK HERE 👀
- You’re now on the second floor of our HQ. Once the event starts, click on the screen! You’re viewing your surrounding via your avatar in a 1st person view — meaning that you can see through the eyes of your avatar!
(B) Learn the basics and then jump into the Metaverse!
- Enter the metaverse: to access the Cryptovoxel Metaverse, you don’t need to create an account or connect your Metamask wallet!
- How can I move around? Movement for your metaverse Avatar: WASD. The W, A, S, and D keys or WASD keys on your computer keyboard are used to move around. E.g. Click on (W) and you will move forward.
- Use your mouse/pad to move the head of your Avatar; e.g. while you click on the key W, move your mouse to discover your surroundings!
Before you enter the metaverse, check the sound and graphics quality!
To control the sound & other parameters, check the top right side of your screen (#1 in the screenshot below). Make sure to have the Parcel Audio at max during today’s educational event(#2)!
- Parcel sound: this is for the sound/music coming from the specific land/house where your Avatar is (keep it open during our Housewarming event to hear the music and the live stream)
- Sound Effect: walking, and other stuff — control it with this parameter
- Ambiance: Cryptovoxels has some cool ambient sound when you walk around its metaverse, you can control the volume of it
- Voice chat: if someone is using the voice chat, you can mute them or hear them with this controller (suggestion: mute it when you’re not interested in chatting)
- Image quality (#3): Depending on what laptop or PC you have, you will want to start with Low Graphics and then test the Medium/High Graphics option. The higher the graphics, the better the visual experience will be.
Tips for today’s live event:
- Parcel Audio high & Voice Chat low.
- Low Graphics at first, and then test the higher resolutions.
